Programme Overview

About this Programme

Six required subjects make up the award — Computer Networks, Data Analytics, Database Management Systems, Management Information Systems, Computers and Society, and Computing Projects. The fifth of those is worth pausing on. A dedicated subject asking what information technology does to the people and institutions around it appears nowhere else in this listing, and it sits oddly well beside the technical material.

Qualifi describes the purpose in practical terms: solving complex applied computing problems, managing technology projects so they land on time, to standard and inside budget, and understanding how computing affects society. Delivery discipline, in other words, is treated as part of the subject rather than an afterthought.

Registered at Level 7 with 120 credits under number 610/2170/2 — and, unusually for this range, with a published total qualification time of 1,200 hours.

Why Choose

Why Choose This Programme?

01

Networks and databases together

Two of the six subjects cover the infrastructure and the data stores that everything else depends on.

02

Analytics in the core

Data Analytics is a required subject, not an option bolted on at the end.

03

Technology and society

Computers and Society examines consequences and responsibility, a subject found on no other listing here.

04

A project you have to deliver

Computing Projects puts the emphasis on finishing on time, to standard and within budget.

05

Study time is actually published

1,200 hours gives you something concrete to plan around, which most awards at this level withhold.

06

An interview, not just paperwork

Centres interview applicants, so experience and intent get a hearing alongside certificates.

An internationally recognised pathway awarded by Qualifi.

Why IT Teams Across the Gulf Consider This

01

Digital government is funded work

Public sector modernisation across the region keeps demand high for people who can run systems projects.

02

Delivery discipline is the gap

Technical staff are plentiful; people who land projects on time and on budget are scarcer.

03

Analytics skills travel

Data analytics content applies equally in banking, logistics and public administration here.

04

Experience counts at entry

Three to four years in a related field is published as a way in, which suits mid-career staff.

05

Delivered internationally

Qualifi states the qualification is available in the UK and overseas through approved centres.

06

The centre quotes the price

No fee is published by the awarding body, so ask for a full written breakdown.

Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does this page list no official learning outcomes?

Because Qualifi has not published any for this qualification, and we would rather tell you that than quietly fill the gap. The page has an outcomes link in its navigation that leads nowhere, and the section is missing between the subjects and the entry requirements. What we have published instead is a coverage summary built strictly from the six subject titles and Qualifi's own overview paragraph, labelled as ours. The February 2023 centre specification should contain the formal outcomes, so request it from your centre if you need them for an employer or a university application.

What does 1,200 hours actually mean?

It is the total qualification time, an estimate of everything a typical learner spends on the award: time in class or in live sessions, plus reading, assignments, practical work and revision done alone. Nobody is promising that many taught hours, and it is not a schedule. Spread over a year it works out at roughly twenty-three hours a week, every week, which is a useful reality check if you intend to study alongside full-time work. Most awards in this range publish no figure at all, so having one here is genuinely helpful when comparing offers from centres.

Is the interview difficult to pass?

Published policy here is an interview at the centre, with experienced managers who hold no formal qualifications eligible for consideration if they show they can handle the demands of the study. It publishes no interview format, no questions and no pass rate, so anyone claiming to know the bar is guessing. Treat it as a conversation about whether your background and available time fit a Level 7 workload. Have your experience, your reasons and your intended schedule ready, and ask the centre what it wants to see beforehand.

Hours are published — but what about price?

Price sits with the approved centre, as does the calendar. The awarding body's job stops at designing the qualification, keeping it regulated and printing the certificate at the end. Classes and prices are nothing to do with it. The useful difference here is that the 1,200-hour figure gives you a benchmark the other awards lack: if a centre proposes finishing in four months, you can test that against the published hours and ask how it adds up. Get tuition, registration and certification itemised separately in any quotation.

Does it overlap with the Level 5 IT qualifications?

In subject names, yes; in purpose, no. Networks, databases and data appear at both levels because they are the backbone of computing at any stage. The difference is what you are asked to do with them. The Level 5 awards build the foundations over 240 credits with an open way in. This one assumes those foundations, expects a degree, a Level 6 qualification or several years of work behind you, and spends its time on management information systems, societal consequences and delivering a project that holds up.

Who is the age 20 rule for?

It is simply the published minimum: applicants must be aged 20 or over. Qualifi gives no reason for the figure, and it is the only award in this listing that uses it — others use 16, 18, 19 or 21, which suggests each was set independently rather than as policy. In practice it rarely bites, since the alternative entry routes already assume a degree or three to four years of work. If you are close to the line, raise it with the centre at the interview stage.
