Qualifi Level 7 Diploma in Educational Management and Leadership

For the people who run schools and colleges rather than the people who teach in them. Policy, change, reflective practice and research methods — and emphatically not a teaching qualification of any kind.

Programme Overview

About this Programme

Qualifi is specific about the destination it has in mind: roles in education administration and management. Not the classroom. Six subjects support that — Leadership Qualities and Practice in Education, Contemporary Issues in Education: Theory, Policy and Practice, Managing Change in an Educational Context, Pedagogy and Practice in Education, Leading Reflective Practice in Education, and Research Methods in Education.

The award's stated purpose is to build understanding of policy, management theory and practice in education, and to give learners a way into the problems facing professionals and policy makers. Leading change, getting performance out of a team, and running reflective practice across a staff group are the skills it names. Pedagogy appears as one subject among six, examined from the perspective of someone responsible for teaching quality rather than delivering lessons.

Look it up as 603/6176/1: Level 7, 120 credits, no published study hours. The specification carries an April 2023 date.

Institutions switching between national and international curricula need managed change, not improvisation.

03

Staff turnover is high

Leading reflective practice helps hold teaching quality steady when teams change often.

04

Regulators expect documented leadership

Inspection regimes across the Gulf increasingly assess management capability, not just results.

05

Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I teach with this qualification?

No, and that needs saying firmly because the pedagogy subject invites the assumption. The award grants no Qualified Teacher Status, is not Initial Teacher Training, is not a PGCE and holds no Department for Education accreditation. It does not permit you to teach in a UK school and plays no part in registration with any teaching regulator. Its subject is running educational institutions: policy, change, leadership, teaching quality as something you oversee. If classroom teaching is the goal, the routes to it are set by national regulators and this is not one of them.

There are three similar education qualifications here — which is which?

A fair question, and the titles are genuinely confusing. This one is Qualifi's Level 7 award, number 603/6176/1, 120 credits. Gatehouse Awards runs a separate Level 7 Diploma in Educational Leadership, a different qualification from a different awarding body despite the near-identical name. Qualifi also runs a Level 5 Extended Diploma in Education and Training Management, 240 credits, number 610/3648/1, aimed at a much earlier career stage. When you apply, quote the qualification number rather than the title, and check which body appears on the certificate.

Does it really lead to an MSc?

It might support an application for one. It does not deliver one, and the published wording is more confident than the evidence behind it. Qualifi states that learners can progress to a university partner, complete a dissertation and receive an MSc in Educational Management and Leadership. No partner is named anywhere on the page, no terms are published and no institution has been shown to us as having agreed it. Universities set their own admission and credit rules, and a dissertation-only route is unusual. Approach your preferred institution and settle the question with it first.

What is the pedagogy subject for, if not teacher training?

For the person who has to judge teaching rather than deliver it. Heads of department, deputy heads, principals and quality leads all make decisions about lesson observation, teaching standards, curriculum choices and staff development, and doing that credibly means understanding how learning actually works. That is a different task from being trained to stand in front of a class, and it is the angle the subject takes within a management award. The centre specification dated April 2023 will tell you how it is assessed.

Where do the fee and the calendar come from?

Your approved centre decides both, because the awarding body sets neither. Qualifi designs the qualification, keeps it regulated and issues the certificate; teaching, intake dates and pricing belong to the centre. Since no total qualification time is published, there is no official hours figure to measure a promised completion date against. Reasonable questions before you commit: how long recent groups have taken, what support exists for the research subject, and exactly what the quoted price includes.

Is work experience in education required?

Published requirements say nothing about it. Two routes are given and no others: hold a Level 6 qualification, or hold a first degree — with no requirement for teaching or administrative experience, no age minimum, no English language score and no references. That is a short statement by any standard, and it means the published bar does not test whether you know the sector. Most people taking an award like this are already working in it, and centres apply their own admissions judgement, so discuss your background with the centre directly.
